Importance of Forklift Safety Training in the Workplace

Forklifts are involved in thousands of serious injuries every year, from tip-overs and falling loads to pedestrians struck in busy aisles. OSHA’s powered industrial truck standard (29 CFR 1910.178) requires that every operator be trained and evaluated before driving a forklift, with a performance evaluation at least once every three years. Our Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck Safety training video gives operators the information they need to work safely with this equipment and helps employers comply with OSHA’s Powered Industrial Truck Standard, and Forklift Safety: Industrial Counterbalance Lift Trucks focuses on the most common type of forklift.

Collisions with people on foot are one of the biggest forklift risks, so we train both sides. Forklift Pedestrian Safety for Operators teaches drivers to anticipate foot traffic, and Forklift Safety for Pedestrians teaches everyone else how to stay visible and clear. Warehouses also rely on smaller equipment, covered in Manual Pallet Jack Safety and Motorized Pallet Truck Safety, and elevated work platforms are covered by Scissor Lifts and Aerial Lifts. Find more courses on our warehouse safety training page.

All forklift training videos are available in English and Spanish. Use Unlimited Interactive Online Training for the classroom portion of operator training and keep completion certificates on file, run refreshers with Unlimited Safety Video Streaming, or order safety DVDs and USBs. The hands-on evaluation must still be done at your facility.
